This month we rolled out our new VISTA Member Recognition Awards program. Four PSP VISTAs were spotlighted for going above & beyond, persevering through difficulties, creating outstanding outcomes, and serving as a good role model for their students. Continue reading for the full story.

Cameron Brewer, Title VII of Logan
The Above & Beyond Award

Cameron has been busy improving student data systems for the Title VII program. He spends hours improving the usability of the system, all while being dedicated to participating in PSP-organized activities and community events. He provided us with a trailer for USU’s homecoming parade, attended the Pumpkin Walk party with his family, and went out of his way to assist with Pumpkin Walk setup. In his first months as a VISTA he has gone above and beyond expectations for both his site and for PSP. Thanks for all you do Cameron!

Michelle Dove, Wilson Elementary School
The Perseverance Award

Michelle has been faced with some adversity in the past few months. However, she always thinks about her work as a VISTA despite any difficulties she encounters. She has supported Wilson’s after school club, supervised a summer camp, managed the food backpack program, and organized a clothing drive in her year of service. This month she’ll complete a successful VISTA term at Wilson, where she’ll continue in a new position as a teacher’s aide/parent liaison. We’ll miss you Michelle!

Jeremy Deal, YouthServe
The Outstanding
Outcomes Award
Jeremy used his technical and organizational skills to create data management systems at the PSP main office, the Family Information & Resource Center, and the America Reads program. Each new system has greatly improved the efficiency and capacity of the site it serves, allowing programs to run much more smoothly. We will miss Jeremy when his term ends this month. We wish him all the best as he continues his graduate studies at USU.

Melanie Chambers, Cache High School
The Good Role Model Award

Melanie is a champion for students at Cache High. She has been instrumental in creating the school’s first ever lunch program. She has requested support from businesses, written grants, and coordinated food donation pickups to make sure that Cache High’s students are being fed every day. Students at Cache High work very hard to graduate each year; Melanie works to minimize their concerns about food availability while engaging them in the lunch program. Several students have earned their food handlers’ permit through the new program, a skill set they can use to support themselves while continuing their education.
