On MLK Day 2016, the Public School Partnership collected...
- 387.3 lbs of FOOD
- 135 HYGIENE items
- 407 HOUSEHOLD items
- and 344 BABY CARE items
...from 4 local grocery stores: Lee's (Logan), Macey's (Providence), Walmart (south), and Natural Grocers.
51 America Reads AmeriCorps members also held their own baby care item drive as part of our MLK Day efforts. These members brought in a total of 2677 BABY CARE items from six local schools, with Lincoln Elementary (Hyrum, UT) bringing in the most donations! All donations benefited local pantries serving disadvantaged youth, seniors, families, and students as well as the My Young Mother program, which was created by PSP VISTA Gracie Botello to support a young mother from Cache Valley as she pursues a college degree at BATC.
Throughout the MLK Day project, 85 volunteers from CVNSA programs - AmeriCorps VISTA*Public School Partnership, Cache Valley SeniorCorps RSVP, and AmeriCorps*America Reads - and the community served a total of 266 volunteer hours! We also partnered with the Cache Valley Senior Citizens Center, the USU Val R. Christensen Service Center, and Jesse Walker of Jesse Walker Photography, and UServeUtah, Utah's state commission on volunteering.
What a great day ON!
